Health Care Reform

General Overview

The term “Health Care Reform” is used for the Affordable Care Act that was signed into law in March of 2010. Many of the new rights and benefits of this Act first went into place in September of 2010 and more are in the works. The date for final implementation of this Act is due in 2014.

This health care reform Act has created a lot of hope for better treatment for all but unfortunately it has also caused some confusion. It is very difficult for the average American to keep up with all the changes and how they may benefit them. Let me help simplify this for you so you don’t have to wade through all the technical and complicated details.

Here are a few of the rights and benefits already in place:

  • Insurance companies must now supply all nationally recommended preventative services at no cost to their insureds.*

  • Availability to insurance coverage for persons with pre-existing conditions that may have excluded them for coverage previously.

  • Lifetime and annual caps on dollar amounts that insurance companies will pay out for medical care have been eliminated

  • Children are allowed to stay on their parent’s health insurance plans up to age 26 (It may actually be less expensive to put them on their own plan though. Contact me to compare).

  • 50% discounts for brand name prescriptions for seniors in the “donut hole” are now included in all Plan D prescription plans.
